Multifandom Fic Bingo: Z is for Ziggy's Dilemma, R is for The Rational Mind, G is for The Gallows...
U is for Upon a Ring, W is for We Also Serve
Ziggy's Dilemma by Marmoset is a crossover between The Sentinel and Quantum Leap. It is an enjoyable fic, although I thought the dilemma of the title was a little underdeveloped. 8,827 words. Jim/Blair slash (but blink and you'll miss it).
The Rational Mind by
copperbadge is a Sherlock Holmes fic in which Watson is troubled by nightmares of his wartime experiences. It is excellent. It has a perfect balance of emotions, and it engages seriously with both its historical setting and its characters. Its representation of Holmes is especially impressive. This fic also has a beautifully executed podfic by Thimblerig. 1,518 words. Holmes/Watson slash. Particularly recommended.
The Gallows by
tei is another Sherlock Holmes fic. In this one, Holmes and Watson attend a hanging. It is a solemn and uncomfortable story, but definitely worth reading. Both the characterization and the writing are very good. 513 words. Gen. Particularly recommended.
I chose two fics from my Beloved Collection to fill the last two squares of my first-round multifandom bingo card. Both of them focus on female characters who are usually overshadowed by the male leads in their respective canons.
Upon a Ring by
sanguinity is yet another Sherlock Holmes fic. It is told from the point of view of Mary Watson (née Morstan), and involves both her marriage to Dr. Watson and her prior romantic relationship with Kate Whitney (her friend from "The Man with the Twisted Lip"). This is a beautiful fic that fleshes out Mary's character very believably, as well as including some interesting historical detail. 5,416 words. Watson/Mary Morstan het with Mary Morstan/Kate Whitney femslash. Particularly recommended.
(I also recommend sanguinity's series of stories in a similar vein but taking place in a different continuity, So Keen a Sympathy, Prologue, and First of Seven.)
We Also Serve by
brightknightie is an original series Battlestar Galactica fic concerned mostly with a discussion between Cassiopeia and Athena about life in the fleet and the directions their lives are taking. It's a really nice look at two supporting characters' perspectives. I especially like the way Cassiopeia, the point-of-view character, is drawn. She is one I had a hard time getting a sense of when watching the show. 3,867 words. Some Cassiopeia/Starbuck het. Particularly recommended.
