Popular vs. Favorite

[personal profile] mab_browne recently made a post on Tumblr responding to the following prompt:

List your “top 10” (or up to 10 if you haven’t written that many) fics ranked by kudos on AO3. Are you surprised by what’s most popular to your readers? Then, under a cut, provide your ranking of your personal top 10 fics (with explanations if you want!), and then tag a few fellow writers!

I've decided to do something similar, but with my Professionals vids. Hence I'm only going to list the top five in each ranking, since I only have eight vids, and I'm going to do the first ranking according to the sum of the AO3 kudos and the YouTube likes. Here we go.

Most Popular:
Cover Me: 28K + 27L = 55
You Baby: 9K + 33L = 42
Life During Wartime: 8K + 15L = 23
Behind Blue Eyes: 11K + 10L = 21
Keep Me From Blowing Away: 14K + 5L = 19

The first two items on this list are not surprising. Cover Me is probably the closest to perfect of my vids and also uses better footage than the others. And I knew that You Baby was a viewer favorite. I'm surprised that Life During Wartime ranked so high. I've always been fond of it, but I had the impression that it wasn't very popular. Behind Blue Eyes was my first vid, and while I do like it, it has issues. I attribute its place in the top five to a combination of people wanting to encourage me as a new vidder and its having been up the longest. The fact that this is apparently the perfect song for Pros may also play a role. Among Pros vids available online, Behind Blue Eyes is used more than any other song, with four examples besides mine.

My Favorites:
Keep Me From Blowing Away: 14K + 5L = 19
Cover Me: 28K + 27L = 55
Just a Little Light: 5K + 4L = 9
We Are the Champions: 5K + 5L = 10
Life During Wartime: 8K + 15L = 23

Although I said that I think Cover Me is the closest to perfect, Keep Me From Blowing Away is my favorite of my vids. I don't know if that is because of the emotional subject or because I have had the longest journey with it. I was not happy with its initial version and tinkered with it on and off for a year before it reached its current form. (Interestingly, all I did in the end was swap out three clips. The final change was nowhere near as great as in some of the drafts I had made.) I was surprised that Just a Little Light scored last in the popularity ranking. I think it's quite good, and it was definitely the most ambitious of my vids with its use of non-Pros footage and images. I am conflicted about the order of the last two. I think We Are the Champions is the better work, but I have more fun watching Life During Wartime. I've put the former first mostly because it didn't get a showing in the popularity rankings. No doubt that is in part because Bodie and Doyle hardly appear in it. It is a Cowley vid. Life During Wartime uses the greatest number of clips of any of my vids and from the greatest number of episodes. It may be the least emotional, but I think it gives a good sense of the show. It's also the one I think depends least on knowledge of the clips' context for its impact. For that reason, it's the one I usually recommend to people I know if they want to see one of my fanvids. Well, that and because it's gen. *g*

The only one of my vids not to appear in either ranking, which apparently nobody loves, is:

Who'll Stop the Rain: 6K + 6L = 12

I must admit it's a bit glum.

I invite [personal profile] jinkyo, a fellow vidder, and [personal profile] timemidae, a favorite writer, to share their most popular and favorite works, if they would like to.
