On the floor next to my desk, I have a large plastic canister decorated with a print of gingerbread houses and cookies. It was designed to hold festive food, but it lost its lid before I acquired it, and I use it as a wastebasket.

Today I was thinking about painting it to look less, well, tacky. That led me to really look at it. I don't know if I'd never looked at it closely before or if it had simply been a long time, but my first thought today was a new one: "Look, gay gingerbread men!"

Yes, my wastebasket is adorned with gay gingerbread men. Slash fiction will rot your brain, folks.

(There are plenty of other possibilities, of course. Butch-for-butch gingerbread lesbians. Gingerbread men with their gingerbread-gender nonconforming gingerbread girlfriends. Pairs of masc gingerbread enbies. Whatever. But to me, they were gay gingerbread men.)

Things I Like: Deteriorata

Poking around today, I found that quite a few more VCR-era Professionals vids are hosted on the Internet Archive now than last time I looked. One of them is Deteriorata by DJ Driscoll. This vid is set to a musical parody of the poem Desiderata. That's the one Doyle displays in his flat in the episode Discovered in a Graveyard. This vid is funny and has a great interplay between the music and the clips.

Earlier today, I heard someone mention Garry Marshall. That name was new to me, so I looked him up. He turns out to have been an all-rounder in both TV and movies (writer, actor, director, producer), and one of the things he had a hand in, according to Wikipedia, was "Mork and Mindy (1978–1982)." Of course, my first thought on seeing that was, "'Mork and Mindy (1978–1982)'...The Professionals (1977-1983)...crossover?" This is your brain on fandom, kids.

Last week, I told my mother a bit about a fanvid I’m working on. Today, I talked to her again, and she said, "How’s your fanflick going? Is that what it’s called?" Why on earth is that not what it is called?
