The turtle, and specifically the tortoise, is my animal of identification. I am noticeably slow in several ways, but have always made up for it in thoroughness and determination. I'm also retiring and given to retreating from too much stimulation, especially socially: going into my shell.
As for the tin part, I think I was originally considering "Tin Terrier" as an AO3 user name, in reference to K-9, the robot dog from Doctor Who. I ended up changing it to Tin Turtle, though. In that context it's partly a reference to the Tin Man, who was the character I most identified with in The Wizard of Oz, one of my favorite movies as a child. The image of a turtle with a tin shell also just resonates with me. It is an odd hybrid creature, with a mix of pathos and comedy about it. And maybe it has the tin shell because of some illness or disability. That would also be very appropriate.

Is there a story behind your ‘fandle’? Why TinTurtle?

What about you? Are you a fan of stick insects?

Yes - nothing deep, they were just my favorites when I used to visit the insect zoo at my local natural history museum
