I'm in the midst of reading my first fic from 1989. I'm enjoying it, but the point where I stopped this evening feels amusingly like a parody of fanfic: Our heroes have returned from the parallel universe. Hero A has recovered from the amnesia he developed about being kidnapped there and brainwashed into working as a prostitute. As a result, our heroes can now enjoy anal sex. Yay!

I'm annoyed by the trope where the heroes' sexual union will not be complete until they do that particular thing, but there is some dramatic barrier in the way. It feels very much based on a straight person's idea of what counts as real sex. I'm not a gay or bisexual man, though, so possibly there is something in it.
