Happy International Fanworks Day, all!

As in 2021 and 2022, I am celebrating by posting recs from an assortment of fandoms and covering each of three fanwork categories. This year, since crossovers seem to be the theme of AO3's festivities, I have included at least one crossover in each category. Also, this year I'm offering a few more recs, so that there will be more content from the two fandoms I know I have in common with most of my readers. I hope you'll see something you like.

Happy International Fanworks Day!

As I did last year, I'm celebrating by sharing some recs coveraing several types of fanwork from a variety of fandoms.

Fan Fiction

alt.wiz: Charlie Furth, Usenet, and the Magical Internet Revolution by [livejournal.com profile] flibbertygigget
Harry Potter, gen, 8932 words
I first read this fic last week and have been looking for opportunities to recommend it since then. It's a piece of fictional nonfiction detailing events that might have taken place in the wizarding world of the 1990s. I think it's wonderful.

This card from the Pros FandomCard exchange arrived on Monday night, but I've been caught up in a flurry of medical appointments, so this is the first chance I've had to post photos. It comes all the way from Ladsland, with a fetching Christmas stamp, and and Armistice Day postmark, a sign of our times of slow mail service.

The same off-LiveJournal fan who sent the first of the cards I received last year sent this one, too.

These are my illustrations for Traitors in Our Midst, [livejournal.com profile] dawnebeth's 2021 story for CI5 Box of Tricks. Visit the master post to find out where you can read the story.

I've enclosed each illustration in a set of spoiler tags so that readers who are so inclined can wait to look at it until they have reached the corresponding point in the story. And now, on to the illustrations!

I had a dream that I received my art assignment for the Professionals Big Bang, but that the person whose story I was assigned didn't want me making the art to go with it. They got very angry and chased me around an underground maze (as one does). I think we came to some kind of understanding eventually, though.

I've never posted a meme before. I got this one from [livejournal.com profile] gilda_elise, whose post was linked in the Pros Newsletter.

1) How many stories have you posted?
Three.
(Also 6 vids and a bunch of photo manipulations.)

Today I received a very surprising Christmas surprise from [livejournal.com profile] macklingirl, who mailed it from Germany a full three months ago, on 3 December of 2020. Much like one of the Wise Men, it has arrived from the east bearing a gift, just not in time for the birth.

Happy International Fanworks Day, everyone!

I thought I might rec a few fanworks for the occasion. I've aimed for a diversity of fandoms and content so that there will be something for everyone.

Fan Fiction

The Optimists in Foxholes Affair by otherhawk
The Man from U.N.C.L.E., gen, 22630 words
This is a plotty mission fic with a side of hurt/comfort and just the right amount of emotional restraint. Like all of otherhawk's work, it is well written, especially the distinct voices of the two main characters. Reading it feels a lot like watching an MFU episode, only with a bit more real drama than often characterized the show.

I find myself enjoying this photo manipulation tonight. It is the last MFU manip I ever made (and the only one I made outside of the intense depressive episode during which I created the others). I never did get around to posting it on AO3, partly because I liked having my farewell to Robert Vaughn as the last item in that album. I did post it on DeviantArt, though. Here's the copy I wrote at that time:

"In dreams, impressions and memories run together to create new worlds that are nevertheless familiar. Illya is dreaming of his childhood as seen through that kaleidoscope."

Some of the photo manipulations I made during 2016 impress me quite favorably now. I made some new manips earlier this month for the Professionals seasonal card exchange, and I found that I had forgotten many of the techniques I learned then. I also found that I did not have the seemingly infinite patience that I had during that spurt of single-minded productivity. (Not that I didn't spend hours on each of the Pros manips during which I could have been making a start on Moby Dick.)

Yesterday I received two more Pros seasonal cards, one from [livejournal.com profile] cim3745 and one from [livejournal.com profile] krisserci5. Hooray and thank you!

I got a Pros seasonal card today, all the way from the UK. Very exciting!

Unfortunately, I can't let its sender know it arrived because there is no LJ handle on it. (At least, none that I can read.) Thank you, though, whoever you are. I have propped it up on my nightstand so that perhaps I will have Pros-y dreams. So far I have only had a dream about a creepy homicidal doll, though. Oh well.

(I've blurred out the signature, which appeared below the word "and." Also, in case anyone's curious, the back of the card really is browner than the front. That's not an artifact of the photos.)
