Fandoms in this post: The Professionals, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Starsky and Hutch

Hello, and welcome to the first post of my Old and New Project. As I explained previously, for this project I will be reading each fic in my Beloved Collection of favorites, followed by at least one new (to me) fic by the same author.

To start this step of the project, I read the two fics by Rebelcat ([profile] myrebelcat) that I had collected in the past. (I'm not sure if I'm always going to read all the fics I have by a particular author at the same time, but I did in this case.)

The fics I had collected were:

Mere Anarchy (The Professionals; 14,347 words; slash)

Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt (Starsky and Hutch; 2,868 words; slash)

I would still highly recommend both of these. (Sometimes I do reread things I've collected and find them less compelling than I did originally.) Mere Anarchy is a recovery fic with impeccable characterizations and dialog. Denial is Not Just a River in Egypt is a ruefully humorous response to the WNGWJLEO trope that used to be common in slash fiction.

The new fics I read were:

A Widening Gyre (The Professionals; 5,192 words; slash)
The title of this fic happens to come from the same stanza of the same poem as that of Mere Anarchy. It is a curious fic that starts when a baddie drugs Bodie's drink. I would recommend it, and I think it may be destined for collection itself.

This fic was written for the Discovered in The Anarchist Cookbook challenge. The next one was written for the Discovered on a Gangplank challenge to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day. The Pros fans of 20 years ago had some good times, it seems.

Brethren of the Coast (The Professionals; 7,290 words; slash)
This fic has both some seriousness and quite a bit of silliness. I thought it was a lot of fun, including the sexy bits at the end, which I found more engaging that usual.

The Flashpoint of Ice (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.; 2,392 words; gen)
This was a somewhat goofy fic, but the dialog between Napoleon and Illya was good.

No Such Thing (The Man from U.N.C.L.E.; 877 words; gen)
This one was also kind of goofy, but I liked it a lot. B-movie UNCLE adventures!

Anyone else have a favorite fic by Rebelcat?
